How long will it be before you quit?

One of the biggest problems we see as a hosting company is that people start a website and then quit without ever giving it a chance. We have seen some amazing quitters over the years.

If you plan on building a website or a business it will take time and effort. If you don't have what it takes to spend hours and hours on the website don't even bother signing up for one. It will take months and months or even years of hard work to have a successful business, so if you are ready to quit minutes after you start, don't waste your money.

Everyone thinks if they build it, people will come. That is not true at all and it will take a serious effort to get even one person to your website. So be prepared for the long haul.

Anyone that owns a business usually understand that, but in todays world of technology, microwave ovens and fast food it seems that people expect success sooner and sooner.

How soon? That is almost funny at times.

We had one customer sign up, spent about 2 hours building the website, added 2 products to the shopping cart and then canceled the site in 24 hours. He claimed he was not making enough money on it to keep it going.

For one thing, he had already paid for an entire month, so you would expect someone to at least hold out for the 30 days. But, NO, this was the 24 hour dude.

The site was just registered and it would be weeks before the search engines every even list it and months before he could expect traffic. What was this guy thinking he would achive in less than one day? How could you be so disconnected to think that building a website would be easy money that fast.

Do people really think all of us webmasters just lob up a simple website in 15 minutes and then start collecting money every day? If only that were the case.

But this guy is not allone, we have had countless signups that quite in less tha a week. Claiming it was too hard, they were not making money yet or it was taking too much of their time to run it.

Too much of your time to run it? How can that be? You just have to sit back and wait for sales, how is that taking your time?

I guess we have heard all the excuses for people being too lazy to run a website. But many people just can't handle the time that it takes to get a business started.

The quickest quitter was 9 minutes. Yes, that is right, 9 minutes.

This lady signs up for a new domain and website and call up 9 minutes later to quit. She says that it is taking too long to build the website.

I told her, what website? The domain is not even on the name servers yet, you can't even get to a new domain for at least 30 minutes. You can't even start working on it until you can actually see it.

She insisted it as more work than she expected and wanted to quit.

I am not sure why we have hundreds of pages of deatils about our web tools, a working demo and open phone lines and people think it will take just seconds to build a website and start making money.

What is particularly annoying is that these people will get angry with us, hate the website system and when they have stewed enough they call up to cancel, but they never call for help or to ask even one question.

It is amazing how the phone works to cancel but not to get help building pages or setting up the website. And that tells you what these people are like. They want it now and they want it fast and they want it to be easy.

I have news for everyone. Making money is not easy and it will not be fast. If you don't have the staying power, do not get a website. Saerch engines look for websites at least 1 year old because they know that 99% of the new websites close in the first year. If you get past that, you are in the website elite and the search engines will start moving you up in the Search Engine Results Pages.

It's no secret that the people that make money work harder for it and the people that are quick to quit will always be searching for the next get rich quick scheme. If you are looking for a get rich quick plan, do not sign up for a website because you will not be rich in the next 9 minutes or even in 24 hours.
